英語中的 Article（冠詞）分為 Indefinite Article （不定冠詞），即是 ‘a’, ‘an’，以及 Definite Article（定冠詞），即是 ‘the’。它們不僅影響句子的意思，還能影響語句的流暢度。瞭解它們正確的使用方法，對提升英語水平非常有用。

 

Indefinite Article （不定冠詞）’a’ 和 ‘an’ 的用法

用於指一個非特定的單數可數名詞。選擇 ‘a’ 或 ‘an’ 主要依據其後單詞的發音。

• 使用 ‘a’ 於輔音音素開頭的單詞前
  • 例如：a book, a car, a girl, a pen
• 使用 ‘an’ 於元音音素開頭的單詞前
  • 例如：an apple, an astronaut, an elephant, an egg, an ox

留意！冠詞其後單詞第一個字母為響音(vowels)，即a, e, i, o, u，但不一定用 ‘an’ ，我們要視乎該單詞的第一個音是否響音。

所以同樣地，即使該單詞的串法上第一個字母不是響音，亦有機會用 ‘an’ 。例如 ‘an hour’ , ‘a UFO’, ‘a university’ 等等。

用於指特定的人或物。它可以用於單數、複數以及不可數名詞前。

2. The children are playing in the park. (孩子們正在公園裡玩耍。)
